A Visitor

Dan almost fell over backwards as he was coming into the house from work this evening. Here's why:

Isn't it CUTE???

It's a Little Brown Bat, I believe. It's just hanging upside down, right by the front door. I keep peeking out the kitchen window to check on it. When I went outside to take this photo, it glanced over at me as if to say, "Do you MIND?" :D

I hope he hangs around -- we need someone to eat all the stinkin' bugs! ;)

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary, How Does Your...

...Garden Grow? Hopefully, well!

Dan decided that we should try to grow our own vegetables this summer. Hmmm....

We've tried to grow things in the past.
Watermelon - got one small one (about the size of a big grapefruit.)
Pumpkins - ditto.
Sunflowers - after we cut the heads off to dry the seeds, the heads molded up. ick.
Zucchini and Summer Squash - vines, no veggies.
Cabbage - had two spectacular ones growing and then they were eaten by some sort of little black bugs. Voila, cabbage lace.

I think you can see why I'm a little gun shy about this, but we'll see how it goes.

Dan and his friend Phil tilled the garden, added horse poo (it pays to live in the Bluegrass, where you can get horse poo for free!), tilled it again, made the rows and planted.
There's carrots, green beans, zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes. We're growing everything from seed except the tomatoes.

Here are some photos of our new Victory Garden:

Pretty veg all in a row!

Keep your fingers crossed for us!

Srsly.

It's all experimental

Giving this a whirl -- it's a slideshow of photos from my photobucket account. Here goes nothing!

Oooo.... I edited the html code to make it fit. Ooooo.... I've never done anything like that before! Woot!

There it is, on the sidebar.

Photos of the kiddies, of my recent layouts, of elements I've made. A little smattering, if you will, of stuff.

Love it.

Steve Urkel lives with me!

DS has a pair of pajama/lounge pants that are waaaaay too long, but he loves them.
No. Not just loves them.
Lurves them.
Last night, he came downstairs with them pulled all.the.way.up.to.his.chin.
(Well, not that far, but almost.)
DH and I cracked up at his Steve Urkel imitation. You remember Steve, don't you?

Well, here's his long-lost cousin!

"Hee heeheeheehee... snort... Did I do that?"

Blogging -- a Challenge

So, I am a member of an awesome online community of scrapbookers. These ladies are smart, funny, wicked, and inspiring. I love 'em! This morning one of them asked, "What's the deal with blogs? Why have one?" Seriously, I've been thinking this exact same thing.

One of the ladies had a great response. She said that she uses her blog to keep her family, which is strewn out across this great land of ours, up to date. "Hmmmm...." thinks I. "That's a great idea!"

Thanks to her, you are now reading this. I'll email you her address if you would like to go visit her and beat her up. :D

"What's the Challenge?" you ask. The Challenge is for me -- to update this frequently enough that the family is happy, but not so frequently that it's annoying. (Considering the fact that I've tried this once before, and failed miserably, I'm not holding out much hope. I'll try, though! A girl's gotta dream, right?)

Here endeth entry number one. May it not be the ONLY entry!
